The Christmas Tree

A tradition that belongs to Christmas, is the decorated Christmas tree. The tradition comes from Germany (1400-1500) and came to Denmark in the 1800’s. It’s different from family to family, how the tree is decorated. Some have lights, homemade Christmas decorations, Christmas balls, garlands, angels, ect. At the top of the Christmas tree most have a star. This star can be seen as the star of Bethlehem, which showed the three wise men way to the baby Jesus.

At Ann's house, they always decorate the Christmas tree d. 24. at noon. It’s decorated with both Christmas decorations her grandmother once made but also newer decorations. It’s a tradition that her smallest sister is lifted up by their father to put the star on. Although she is soon 18 and tall enough to reach, this is still a tradition.

En tradition, der høre til julen er det pyntet juletræ. Traditionen kommer fra Tyskland tilbage i 1400-1500 tallet og kom til Danmark i 1800-tallet. Det er forskellige fra familie til familie, hvordan træet bliver pyntet. Nogle har lyskæder, hjemmelavet pynt, julekugler, guirlander, engle osv. I juletræets top, har de fleste en stjerne. Denne stjerne kan forstås som Betlehems stjernen, som viste de hellige tre konger vej til Jesus barnet.

Hjemme hos Ann pynter vi altid juletræet d. 24. om formiddagen. Det pyntes både med julepynt, som hendes oldemor engang har lavet, men også nyere julepynt. Lige siden hendes mindste søster var helt lille har det været tradition, at hun bliver løftet op af deres far for at sætte stjernen på. Selvom hun snart er 18 og høj nok til selv at nå, er dette stadig en tradition.
